This project involved upgrading the effluent storage and irrigation system for a 600-cow spring calving farm in Ngatea.
The farm previously relied on an existing concrete sump with limited storage, requiring frequent irrigation to pasture using a Williams Spider travelling irrigator. The client needed a larger storage solution and an efficient low-rate irrigation system that could operate at higher flow rates without exceeding power limitations during peak milking times.
We designed and implemented an upgraded effluent management system by transferring all effluent from the existing sump into a newly constructed HDPE-lined storage pond. A Mono PC pump was selected for its ability to handle two different operating duties efficiently while using only an 11kW motor. The stored effluent is now stirred and pumped to pasture via two Williams GreenBack Spider travelling irrigators, with the flexibility to run one or both at a time. The system also includes Halo irrigator monitors for improved control and efficiency.
Our effluent system was a constant source of frustration due to frequent blockages. After consulting with the Williams team, we decided to install an effluent stone trap. The difference has been remarkable! Since the installation, we haven't experienced a single blockage, and our operations run much smoother. The Williams team was professional and efficient throughout the process. I highly recommend their services to anyone struggling with similar issues!
