Project

Located in Paeroa, this dairy operation was facing daily blockages in the travelling irrigator, a frustrating issue that was affecting overall farm efficiency. The culprit? Wood chips from the calving pad entering the effluent system and clogging the irrigator nozzles. To temporarily address the issue, Dave had resorted to cutting the irrigator nozzles, which allowed the system to keep running but came at the cost of reduced irrigation performance and poor application control. It was clear this was not a long-term solution. What Dave needed was a reliable and simple fix that would prevent debris from reaching the irrigator without compromising system performance or requiring constant maintenance.

What we did

After evaluating the system and understanding the source of the blockages, Dave decided to install an inline filter fitted with a 12x20 galvanised screen. This filter would catch the wood chips before they entered the irrigator, eliminating the cause of the blockages. The installation process was straightforward and hassle-free. The filter was quickly integrated into the existing effluent line, and no major modifications were needed. Cleaning the filter is just as easy, the screen can be removed, washed out, and put straight back into the housing with minimal effort or downtime. Since the installation, Dave reports that all blockage issues have completely stopped. The irrigator now runs at full performance with no interruptions, and farm staff no longer have to spend time managing or fixing daily clogs.

By the numbers

Here how the impact of Willliams Effluent Solutions system design brought results for Atiamuri farm.

"We were dealing with daily blockages in our traveling irrigator nozzles caused by wood chips from our calving pad entering the effluent system. Out of frustration, we cut the irrigator’s rubber nozzles, but this only led to poor irrigator performance. After installing a Williams In-Line Filter, the difference has been fantastic. Cleaning the screen takes just five minutes once a week, and it has significantly reduced unnecessary frustrations on the farm."
